Adventurer and author to deliver inspirational lecture

Acclaimed adventurer and author Tess Burrows will deliver an inspirational Spring Lecture in aid of Alton heart charity Cardiac Rehab this month.

Cold hands, warm heart” is the title of her talk to be delivered at Alton Maltings on Thursday 30 May, from 7pm.

Tess’ book of the same name describes her journey across the driest, windiest place on Earth to reach the southernmost tip of the globe, while campaigning for world peace.

Known for braving extreme conditions, Tess Burrows has not only taken part in polar expeditions, she is also a highly experienced climber. Racing across the Antarctic during the South Pole Race in 2009, she competed against fit young men such as Ben Fogle and James Cracknell. She may even recall her climb to one of the highest places on Earth, to broadcast peace messages for Tibet.

Cardiac Rehab CEO Sarah Quarterman says: “Anyone with a sense of adventure will enjoy hearing this gritty and determined grandmother catalogue her adventures in her own entertaining style.

“Funds raised from this event will support our vital work, helping individuals to improve their heart health, fitness and life expectancy from our specialist-led exercise Centre in Chawton Park Road.”

Cardiac Rehab also supports older people wishing to stay well, those recovering from cancer, strokes and people awaiting joint surgery.
