Walking for Grandpa and Cardiac Rehab

From 12-16th July, the wonderful Kate Matthews will be walking 78 miles from Falmouth to Plymouth along the South West Coastal Path to raise money for the Cardiac Rehab, and all in memory of her Grandpa.

Peter Macdonald, Kate’s Grandpa, passed away recently and she wanted to do something to raise money for us, as thanks for the support we had provided him over the last few years.  Peter’s main love was hiking in the Scottish Highlands, and he was a founding member of the Great Glen Walking Club.  In 1997, Peter suffered a severe stroke which affected his speech and mobility, but this didn’t defeat him.  He continued to travel the world, kept hiking, and lived his life to the fullest.  Walking part of the Coastal Path seemed like the perfect challenge in his memory.

Peter attended the Rehab Centre for nearly 5 years with wife Margaret, where he thoroughly enjoyed his sessions and made some good friends. “Everyone at the Centre were very supportive and understanding of Grandpa’s needs.”

“My Grandpa was a kind, honourable and funny man; loved by so many in his family and community.” said Kate.  “This is not one of those ultra-exhausting challenges (I fully intend on stopping for pasties and ice cream), but I hope it will raise a bit of money for a fantastic cause.”
